富山大学卒業後、順天堂大学心臓血管外科教室に入局し、心臓外科および血管外科、静脈瘤治療に従事。外科専門医を取得。医学博士号を取得後に、病理診断医も従事し、病理専門医を取得。外科や病理の診療を深める中で、医療課題に関心を持つようになる。
